A Year of Growing Out my Hair

Last April, I decided I wanted long hair again. So I began the long and arduous process that many women can relate to: growing out my hair. I am now more than a year into my journey. I decided to do this month-by-month post to prove to myself that my hair is actually growing because I thought it might be fun for people to see. While some of us are blessed with fast-growing hair, my hair grows very slowly. On top of that, it is baby-fine, and will break easily, thereby undoing months of growth with one stroke of the brush if I'm not careful! I apologize that the photo quality is not up to par with my usual posts, but most of these are "selfies" I took with my phone. (hence the super-accurate dates.) Come take a walk with me down memory lane.....

Ground Zero: April 19, 2014

June 12, 2014

As you can see, I started out with platinum blonde hair. Not only did I change the length of my hair over the past year, I slowly but surely changed the color as well. Read more about the reason behind my color change and platinum hair days here.

I swear it felt like my hair did not grow at all for four solid months. I finally started noticing some length at the end of September, when my hair hit my shoulders, a major milestone in the process of growing out your hair.

By December, I was actually able to curl certain parts with a curling iron, and my hair actually wrapped all the way around the barrel more than one time. Another major hair growing milestone. I started feeling better about how I looked.

March 2015

January - March was another hard period. I really didn't feel like I was seeing any growth. The problem was that the top layers of my hair started out so short, they were taking forever to catch up to the bottom. The effect of that was basically a mullet, which I did not photograph because I try to pretend that I did not actually have a mullet.

Present Day: May 11, 2015

I finally feel like I am over the hump, so to speak. My hair is well past my shoulders, so it should be smooth mullet-free sailing from here. I also discovered  the wonder of hair extensions during the month of April, which I am now obsessed with. I highly recommend them if you are dying for long hair and having a hard time waiting for it. These are my favorites.

Here's to another year of hair growth!!!
